Inspection and repair methods for pneumatic air cylinder block cracks

October 10, 2024
In order to timely understand the condition of the cylinder block, hydraulic testing is usually required to detect whether there are cracks. The actual method is to first connect the cylinder head (cylinder kit) to the cylinder block, install the gasket, and then connect the inlet pipe at the front end of the cylinder block to the outlet pipe joint of the hydraulic press. Then inject the required pressure into the cylinder water jacket and maintain it for five minutes after injection is complete.

During this period, if there are small water droplets on the surface of the cylinder block, it means there are cracks. In this case, it is necessary to repair the cracks. So, what can actually be done to fix it? Generally speaking, there are three ways in total. One is the bonding method. This method is mainly suitable for situations where the stress at the crack generation site is very low and the temperature is still within 100 ° C.

Usually, when using this method to repair a cylinder block, the key adhesive material chosen is epoxy resin. This is because the bonding strength of this material is very strong, and it basically does not cause shrinkage, resulting in relatively good fatigue performance. When using epoxy resin for bonding, the operation is very simple. However, when the temperature rises and the impact force is relatively strong, it is recommended to use welding repair methods.

Once obvious cracks are found in the cylinder block, with relative stress and a temperature above 100 ° C, it is more suitable to use welding repair methods for maintenance. According to the welding repair method, the repaired cylinder block may be of high quality.

In addition, there is a maintenance method called trapping, which is more novel than the two methods mentioned above. Usually, leak sealing agents are used to repair cracks in the cylinder block. When maintaining specific cylinder block cracks, appropriate maintenance methods can be selected based on the actual damage situation.
