Types of pneumatic cylinder and how to choose them

In terms of functionality (compared to design), there are many types, such as standard cylinder, free installation cylinder, thin cylinder, pen cylinder, dual axis cylinder, three-axis cylinder, sliding cylinder, rodless cylinder, rotary cylinder, gripper cylinder, etc. These types of pneumatic cylinders are more commonly used.

In terms of function, it can be divided into single effect and double effect. The former is divided into rebound (the cylinder extends by air pressure and retracts by the elastic force of the spring) and compression (the cylinder retracts by air pressure and extends by air pressure). There are two types of cylinders, generally used for short stroke, with low requirements for output force and motion speed (low price, low energy consumption). Double effect cylinders (both cylinders extend and retract by air pressure) are more widely used for pressure.

Characteristics of commonly used cylinders:

Standard cylinder: If we take the standard cylinder as the standard, the standard cylinder itself is square and has a relatively large volume.

Free installation cylinder: From its name, there are many installation methods that are more comfortable and smaller in size.

Thin cylinder: relatively thin and of moderate volume.

Pen shaped cylinder: shaped like a pen and relatively small in volume.

Dual axis cylinder: There are two output shafts, and the output force is twice that of a single axis cylinder. The output shaft will shake slightly.

Three axis cylinder: There is one force output shaft and the other two shafts are guide shafts, but there is also vibration.

Sliding table cylinder: The sliding table cylinder has high accuracy and is generally composed of one output shaft and two guide rails, with high precision.

Rod free cylinder: Compared with other cylinders, the stroke of a rod free cylinder is twice that of other cylinders at the same length. The operation is single axis, and the volume is relatively small, saving space.

Rotating cylinder: The output motion is rotational motion, with a rotation angle generally between 0-200 degrees.

Fixture cylinder: The fixture cylinder is responsible for the output action and clamping opening action.
